“Langan grabs the audience in the palm of her hand and will not let go of them…jam packed with moments to be relished and remembered.” —TheatreEddys
“Langan is a natural comedienne who you like so much you can’t wait to hear more…we love Maureen Langan. Go check out the garbage guy’s little girl. You’ll love her too.” –SF Theatre Blog
“The title of Maureen Langan’s solo show, “Daughter of a Garbageman,” now at The Marsh, may be unprepossessing, but make no mistake: This is a thick, well-structured, funny and touching examination of—well, as the witty Langan declares right off, of why she doesn’t have the book deal, the fame, the acclaim of that chucklehead Kim Kardashian.” — SF Examiner
“San Francisco’s gift to the solo performance world, David Ford.” –SF Examiner
“The most emotionally moving show I have seen this Fringe… with genuine laugh-out-loud hilarity. Maureen is a superb stand-up comic.” —Daily Business, UK
“She has something to say about family, relationships, self-acceptance and American culture and is willing to be completely honest without sacrificing her killer since of humor.” –SF Examiner
DAUGHTER OF A GARBAGEMAN is a tale of Maureen Langan’s 1970’s upbringing in New Jersey. Her Irish mother and Bronx-born father, a New York City sanitation worker, told her to work hard, get educated and life would reward her.
Not true! Life is rewarding reality stars. How do you tell a girl to read and write when Kim Kardashian gets a book deal? When making a sex tape leads to fame and fortune? When the star of The Apprentice can become the president?
WHO IS TO BLAME? Is it her parents’ fault? America’s fault? With humor, honesty, and insight, Maureen taps into the hearts and frustrations of hard-working people everywhere who wonder if they, too, were raised wrong.
Maureen Langan is a journalist turned standup comic and talk show host. Maureen has performed on Broadway with Rosie O’Donnell and has opened for Steven Wright, Dennis Miller, Joy Behar and Gladys Knight. She’s been featured on HBO, Gotham Live, Comics Unleashed, CBS, FOX, and HLN. She’s performed at festivals in Canada, South Africa, Switzerland, Ireland, and the UK. DAUGHTER OF A GARBAGEMAN completed a month-long run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in August.
As a broadcast journalist, Maureen reported for PBS and created/hosted Bloomberg TV & Radio’s entertainment programming. She was named Best Female Commentator by the Newswomen’s Club of NYC. Maureen has sat down with the great George Carlin, Joan Rivers, Phyllis Filler and many others, including some who are still alive.
Maureen grew up in Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey, where there is no lake. Her desire to live in a style to which she had never been accustomed led her to attend Montclair State University to study Communications and English. At the time, she believed that was the path to success. She has since come to her senses.
Maureen splits her time between New York City and San Francisco. Her show, Hanging with Langan, can be heard Sunday nights from 7-10pm on KGO Radio in San Francisco.
