The Drum tells the story of a child who wants nothing more than to own a drum, and searches the world to find one. This Indian folktale tells of giving, trading and learning that what you think you want may be different from what you need. Do you love to dance, sing, act and play music? Come be part of MYT’s original production of The Drum.
Sally Davis and Maica Folch are famous for waking up the storyteller within young performers, providing joyful creativity and miraculous theatrical moments.

I am out to sing the songs that make you take pride in yourself. …Woodie Guthrie
MYT honors the 100th birthday of America’s greatest songwriter with an original show based on Woodie Guthrie’s songs about remarkable places, people and history. Guthrie came of age during 1930’s at the height of the Great Depression and Dust Bowl. Bound for Glory tells the true story of a family who migrates from Oklahoma to California, where they search for a home.
MainStage Performance Ensemble is for students who are ready to immerse themselves in a full-scale theater performance through an integrated experience in drama, dance, music and visual art. Bound for Glory culminates in two weekends of spectacular performances for the community.

MYT is thrilled to collaborate with the great writer and poet, Gary Soto, on a new play about undocumented teenagers. This important issue touches all of us—from the teenagers whose dreams of college and future employment are stymied by their immigration status, to documented friends and families who yearn to include them fully in the community’s collective visions. Under the guidance of Director Cliff Mayotte, MYT Teen Troupe interviewed dozens of undocumented peers throughout the community, whose stories will be incorporated in Soto’s script. This incredible collaboration between MYT and world-class author Gary Soto will create an important new work of theater and social justice full of humor, passion and hope.
