We invite you to an evening of music, theater, specialty cocktails and “A Taste of the Neighborhood” where you can mingle with your favorite solo performers while you enjoy libations and delicacies from the Valencia Gourmet Corridor.
At the Gala we will also honor two individuals Stephanie Weisman, Marsh founder and artistic director and Philip Armour, board chair whose efforts, talents and leadership over the past 25 years have been instrumental in making this theater “known worldwide as a leading developer of one-person shows.” (CBS local)
Proceeds from this event which will include a limited “Fund A Need Auction” will benefit The Marsh’s performance development programs and Marsh Youth Theater, where no child is ever turned away because of financial need.

Founder and Artistic Director of The Marsh. Established in 1989, The Marsh’s growth and success is due to Stephanie’s vision, creativity, and leadership over the past 25 years. Stephanie is an artist with an MA in Creative Writing. She has edited an arts journal, taught publishing, served as an instructor for Media Alliance Training Lab, composed an acclaimed one-act opera, Aphrodisia, is a published poet and journalist, and her first solo photo exhibit, Appleachia, Apples on the Go, was mounted this July. Stephanie has served on the Board of the Will Glickman Playwright Award and the Business Arts Council. She is the recipient of the Meritorious Achievement Award from the Bay Area Theatre Critic’s Circle and was named “A Local Hero” by the Bay Guardian for her work as Artistic Director of The Marsh.
Attorney and leader in Bay Area Arts since the 1980’s. Philip has been an extraordinary Board member of The Marsh since 1994. He has served on multiple San Francisco Boards including KQED, The Magic Theatre, and The Armour Foundation, holding the position of Board President at each of these institutions. The Armour Foundation’s first grant to The Marsh in 1994 allowed the organization to fund its Artistic Director. Philip’s vision and foresight was instrumental in the purchase of The Marsh’s Valencia Street building in 1996, thereby solidifying The Marsh’s existence, growth and identity as a breeding ground for solo performance. Philip is and has always been a partner in the development of all things Marsh.
Located in San Francisco and now in Berkeley, The Marsh has lived up to its moniker as a breeding ground for new performance and has grown into one of the Bay Area’s most visible and highly respected performance venues. Each year, through its developing work series (Monday Night Marsh for short works, Marsh Risings for full-length works) plus its MainStage premieres, The Marsh presents between 600 and 700 performances on its four stages.
