MYT Teaching Assistant

Teaching Artist, various Performing Arts (Theater, Storytelling, Music, Digital Storytelling, Circus Arts, Dance, etc.)

Pay: $67/hour plus prep

Hours:
School year: 10-14 week residencies (Spring & Fall. Days, hours, & times vary, but mainly after school).
Summer: 10 week residencies with varied days/times (June-mid-August)

The ideal candidate is an experienced arts educator who is able to work a varied part-time schedule and loves to inspire Pre-K through 5th grade students. 

Job Summary:

Teaching Artists are responsible for conducting high-quality, standards-based, culturally responsive Performing Arts education classes for Marsh Youth Theater. Teaching artists develop their own curriculum and deliver engaging, age appropriate instruction for Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade students in diverse educational settings. 

Teaching assignments will be in-person at SFUSD after-school and OST sites primarily serving Pre-K-8th grade students throughout San Francisco. We are looking for dedicated Teaching Artists specializing in various genres of Performing Arts, including but not limited to Music, Theater, Clowning, Storytelling, Stop Motion, Digital Storytelling, and Dance. To better reflect the community we serve, we strive for diversity in our teaching staff. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach age appropriate, standards-based curriculum to students throughout SFUSD
  • Meet for orientations, workshops, and meetings held in-person and on Zoom.
  • Perform required administrative duties such as submitting time sheets, attendance, and other writeups, as needed. Regular communication with MYT Director regarding residencies and timely response to communications from supervisor.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing written and verbal communication with SFUSD school site administration, classroom teachers, and arts coordinators.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
  • Ability to support a safe classroom environment that allows students to explore and grow. 

Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Teaching Artist working in educational environments with diverse student populations, from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, age groups, and abilities. Experience working in SFUSD schools with ELL, Special Education, Special Day Classes, and/or Bilingual classes preferred.
  • Ability to share age appropriate concepts through physically inclusive, culturally-responsive, and anti-racist teaching practices.
  • Ability to support a safe and inclusive classroom environment
  • Actively participate in professional development by attending trainings, educational activities, and staff meetings.
  • Effectively communicate with MYT director, teaching artists, school staff, and students.
  • Utilize specialized knowledge to provide differentiated instruction, promoting creative development among various learning styles.
  • Knowledge of California VAPA Learning Standards, Common Core State Standards, and national standards.

MYT Admin and Classroom Assistant 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage data for program; participation, attendance, hours
  • Assist with the planning and implementing of programs
  • Assist with maintaining financial records, invoicing and reports
  • Assist with on and off-site youth programs; may include classes in Theater, Trapeze, Dance, Drumming and Digital Storytelling

Qualifications

  • Strong Organizational Skills
  • Ability to think and act on both micro- and macro- levels
  • Administrative experience
  • Proficiency in Spanish highly preferred
  • Skilled in data management and efficiently organizing documents and files
  • Desire to take ownership of and help shape youth arts education program
  • Ability to use MS Office (Word & Excel), Google Suite and MAC OS X
  • Experience with Theater Education

Position Details

  • Part-time 10-15 hours per week / Hours TBD, 30 hours per week during Summer and Spring Camps (if in-person camps happen)
  • Year round position (Summer months, June-August, potential for extra hours)
  • Start date September
  • Position open until filled

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $21-25 per hour DOE
