Show Description
“This show can turn a bad mood on its head” -Bay Area Reporter
After being outed by her flamboyant mother, young Marga, like a Latina Patty Hearst, escapes her New York home for 1976 San Francisco. When a survival restaurant job requires her to recreate a treasured family recipe, Marga’s Spanish Stew unites her with both her family of origin and her chosen San Francisco family of Queer, punk and avant-garde. Spanish Stew’s first work-in-progress performance was in August 2024 at The Marsh’s “In Front of Your Eyes Festival.” Its 2025 “World Premiere” took place at New Conservatory Theater, San Francisco.
Marga Gomez is a GLAAD Award winning writer/performer of fifteen solo plays which have been presented Off-Broadway, internationally and in the Bay Area at The Marsh, New Conservatory Theatre Center, Brava Theater, Theater Rhinoceros, Playground and The Magic Theater. Her 15th solo play Spanish Stew originated from an “Individual Artist Grant 2024” from the San Francisco Arts Council. Her website is margagomez.com Artist Biography
