About the Show
The ICEmen Cometh critiques the Trump Regime’s full-frontal attack on immigrants, and how the brutality and cruelty of ICE agents as they catch, detain, disappear, and deport people, is eroding the civil rights of everyone in the United States. Stories about earlier waves of anti-immigrant hysteria explain how white supremacy has shaped our nation’s immigration laws.
Artist Biography
Irma Herrera’s new play, The ICEmen Cometh, uses current events to examine the history of immigration and the racial attitudes that have controlled who is allowed entry into the United States. Her first solo show, Why Would I Mispronounce My Own Name? is a personal narrative with laugh-out-loud humor and a substantial dose of American history. Her characters show who is valued and seen as “Real Americans.” The play had a five-month run at The Marsh Theaters (both SF and Berkeley) and has been performed nationally. Before becoming a playwright and solo performer, Irma was a San Francisco-based civil rights lawyer and journalist for three-plus decades. Through her powerful plays, Irma urges audiences to confront the enduring power of xenophobia, racism, sexism, and other forms of prejudice, and to speak up for fairness and equality.
