Show Description

From  actor/playwright Dan Hoyle comes a revised and updated version of the Bay Area Theater Critics Circle Award winning show Each and Every Thing.  With added material from a recent trip to Chicago to reconnect with SeeKnow, and new meditations on how social media and the digital experience resonate in the Trump era. From a childhood listening to anti-conformist rants in San Francisco to the the hustle-heavy street corners of Chicago; from a Digital Detox retreat in remote Northern California to the intellectual temple of Calcutta’s famed coffeehouse, join Dan in his search for true community and connection  in our fractured world.

 

Artist Biography

Dan Hoyle is an actor and playwright recently returned to the Bay Area after four years living in New York City. His brand of journalistic theater has been hailed as “riveting, funny and poignant” (New York Times) and “hilarious, moving and very necessary” (Salon). His solo shows EACH AND EVERY THING, THE REAL AMERICANS, TINGS DEY HAPPEN, FLORIDA 2004: THE BIG BUMMER, and CIRCUMNAVIGATOR–all created and premiered at The Marsh Theater in his native San Francisco–have toured  the country and overseas including Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater (NYC), Culture Project (NYC), Berkeley Repertory Theater, Baltimore Center Stage, Cleveland Playhouse, Portland Center Stage, Playmakers Rep (North Carolina), Painted Bride (Philadelphia), The Lensic (Santa Fe), The Park in Calcutta, India, and a U.S. State Department-sponsored five city tour of Nigeria. Hoyle recently appeared Off-Broadway in Samantha Chanse’s FRUITING BODIES at The Sheen Center, and has been featured in several web comedy series, playing everything from a struggling tech entrepreneur to a guy named Skeezy Steve. His multi actor plays include GAME ON, co-written with Tony Taccone, (TBA award for Outstanding New Play) THE BLOCK, which had a critically acclaimed run Off-Broadway in Spring 2016 (Working Theater), and GROW, a Northern California marijuana comic thriller, which premiered at Mendocino College in Ukiah, CA. Hoyle was an artist-in-residence at Columbia University’s Heyman Center for Humanities last year and had a similar post at Trinity College, Dublin this Spring working on a new solo show BORDER PEOPLE, which will premiere at The Marsh San Francisco November 2018.

Charlie Varon (director, co-developer) is an artist-in-residence at The Marsh Theater in San Francisco. He has collaborated with Dan Hoyle on his solo shows Circumnavigator, Tings Dey Happen and The Real Americans. As playwright/performer, Varon’s award-winning shows – all created in collaboration with David Ford –include Rush Limbaugh in Night School (1994), The People’s Violin (2000), and Rabbi Sam (2009) which have had long runs at The Marsh and toured the country. charlievaron.com

Maureen Towey (co-developer) directs live performance events.  She works as a creative director for musicians such as Arcade Fire and Ray LaMontagne.   She has been recognized as a AOL/PBS MAKER, a Princess Grace fellow, a TCG Leadership U Fellow, and a Fulbright scholar in South Africa.  She is an ensemble member of Sojourn Theatre and a graduate of Northwestern University.  maureentowey.com

Mars Today (original music) has produced official remixes for Zion I, Collie Buddz and collaborates regularly with Panamanian duo Los Rakas, recently as music director for their live band. His songs have been featured on several hit TV shows (Robot Chicken, Dexter). mrmarstoday.com

David Hines (sound design) is a San Francisco based sound and lighting designer whose work was heard in Hoyle’s TINGS DEY HAPPEN and THE REAL AMERICANS.
