Show Description

“Adam & Eve On A Raft” is the story of a man and a woman exiled from paradise. They dance, drink, grieve, quarrel and love through wonders and horrors of contemporary America. The story unfolds through dream-like monologues and original songs in the classic American songbook style. The piece was awarded “Best of Fringe”by the 2018 San Francisco Fringe Festival.

Artist Biography

The Book of Jones began as the Americana band Along Came Jones, led by classically trained singer, guitarist, and composer Dennis Finnegan. Lyricist Johny Blood began performing brief monologues between the songs, and eventually they “flipped the script” and fit the songs to the spoken parts to create a theatrical piece. They are joined by singer/songwriter Kathy Sparling, who was released two albums of her own, and Bay  Area performer Juliana Sorem. The Book of Jones has performed at the Fringe Festival and the Marsh Theater and other Bay Area venues.

Show Description

This serious, yet often funny show, demonstrates the transition from provider to patient and what lessons this role reversal may have.

Much of her motivation for writing and performing this piece comes from the way the media portrays cancer heroes, cancer miracles, and people that ‘fight’ for their lives. She presents options other than the fighting model as a response to cancer.

In the course of the show, using actual conversations with providers, Judith portrays her interactions with the medical establishment in hopes that there can be better understanding of the journey and choices faced by a person with a catastrophic diagnosis.

Performance tonight benefits Charlotte Maxwell Complementary Clinic

“I’ve worked for 30 years with people who are writing and performing their own stories. In that time I’ve heard a lot of people give witness to the trials of having a life threatening disease. Judith Dambowic goes further than anyone I’ve encountered. She gets the awful contrasts of fear and courage, agency and impotence, armor and vulnerability.”

David Ford – “the dean of solo performance” —SF Chronicle

Artist Biography
