About the Show

Elaine Magree’s solo show, OTHER, Previously titled- Pilgrimage: Why I’m not an Indian, is an unexpectedly funny and disturbing road trip. She returns to the reservation she visited as a child to untangle the secrets of her mixed heritage and to find the proper resting place for her mother’s ashes. Braided into that journey are flashbacks from her troubled childhood and her troubled ancestral past. The intensely personal family history reveals a fiercely ignored national history. And what the heck should she do with those ashes?

OTHER is a trip filled with irony,  irreverence and forgiveness.

It’s moving fun for dysfunctionals, genealogists, historians, truth tellers, survivors, social activists, and anyone who loves their family even though…and for the deeply hopeful.

Content Advisories: Sexual abuse: teenager set up for pornographic pictures, discussion of genocidal policies and practices affecting indigenous people
