Adventures Beyond My Living Room
Written and Performed by Helene Lara
Oakland, California, USA
In travel, we often encounter the unknown. There’s adventure, exploration, adjustment, adaptability, a new language, a different culture. Travel can be challenging at times—-there’s currency conversion and varied timezones. However, it is always an opportunity to explore and embrace the unfamiliar and discover something new about yourself. Marble Floor is a heartwarming journey of human pain, strength, and refuge. Forest Canopy takes the listener on a comical ride through the rain forest. Follow Helene as she encounters torrential downpour, a lost traveler, and a peculiar bus driver.
About the Artist
Helene Lara is a writer, performer, and photographer who uses storytelling in both her career as a user experience advocate and on the stage. Her stories come from personal life experience of seemingly everyday events and transport the listener to a world that is both familiar and yet at the same time distant and unfamiliar. Some of her stories, like Thoughtful Garment, give the listener a transformative experience through a piece of bronze thread. While, Marble Floor is a heartwarming journey of human pain, strength, and refuge. And, Forest Canopy takes the listener on a comical ride through a rain forest. She has performed for The Marsh and NY Writers Coalition. Listeners find her stories thought-provoking, uplifting, and rewarding. Helene hails from New York City and is comfortably settling into her Bay Area home. Though she is still searching for that perfect bagel, she loves the multitude of options in the Bay Area for Sunday afternoon hikes.
