About the Show
Reclaiming and reframing the negative Jewish Mother stereotype, through updated comedy and songs.
In every other respect, comedy has evolved past ethnic stereotypes, but somehow Jewish mothers are stuck in the Borscht belt, and it’s high time we got an upgrade too! “Don’t Mind Me” combines historic research, interviews, inventive comedy, real-life anecdotes and original music in a creative argument that we evolve past a dated stereotype which is rooted in misogyny, anti-Semitism, and ageism, to find new, more positive, accurate humor . . . and songs!
Artist Biography
Lauren Mayer is a prolific songwriter, performer, and political humorist whose weekly topical comedy song videos have attracted millions of views, (and almost as many trolls), and her work can be heard regularly on Sirius XM’s Comedy Channel. Some of her most popular songs include “I Didn’t Come From Your Rib, You Came From My Vagina”, “Dear Internet Trolls” and “Just Another Middle-Aged Jewish Mother with a Crush on Steph Curry”. She is the recipient of five San Francisco Cabaret Gold Awards and has performed all around the Bay Area, including Feinstein’s, The Marsh, The Plush Room, Society Cabaret, and Alameda Comedy Club.
Lauren graduated summa cum laude from Yale University and is on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has created and performed custom-written musical comedy shows for major corporate clients (Hewlett-Packard, Wells Fargo, California Funeral Directors Association and many others), as well as releasing dozens of albums of critically-acclaimed comedy and children’s music. In her spare time, she teaches tap dancing (and occasionally sleeps).
